What is your name and title?
Jaden Hilkemann - CAPE Project Director and OVW Coordinator
How long have you worked at 91¿ì²¥? What attracted you to work here?
I began this position on December 11th, just a couple of months ago. After completing my undergraduate degree in the spring of 2023, I was drawn back to 91¿ì²¥. The opportunity to apply for the CAPE Director position immediately caught my attention because, as a CAPE peer educator for 2.5 years during my undergrad, I was deeply committed to the project's mission. In this role, I can leverage my passion and expertise in federal government and grant programming, while also contributing to the significant impact that CAPE has on 91¿ì²¥'s campus.
What do you consider the best part of your 91¿ì²¥ experience?
During my undergraduate years, I cultivated meaningful connections with both my coaches and professors who played a pivotal role in empowering me throughout my college journey. Now, as a young professional in a different role, I continue to experience that same level of support and empowerment, this time from my coworkers, the DEI Department, and leadership.
What is something you're proud of accomplishing or achieving while at 91¿ì²¥?
I credit 91¿ì²¥ for numerous opportunities, such as receiving a quality education and securing multiple internships that provided valuable work experience. Regarding CAPE, I take pride in the strides we've made with our athletes and coaches. We've consistently enhanced our education system, fostering trust and rapport with coaches and athletes, ensuring effective outreach to this significant population on our campus.
What's some advice you would give to current students? Or, what is some advice you've received that you value?
It is easy to feel alone, but 91¿ì²¥ has more resources than some students might be aware of. If you need anything, just ask! So many people care about your success and wellbeing as 91¿ì²¥!
What's something you like about yourself that others may not know?
I love to run! I ran cross country and track when I was a student at 91¿ì²¥ and I recently ran my first marathon. Although I am no longer a college athlete, I continue feed my love for running almost everyday!
