Sweet Things by Marcy is a living testament that a lot can change in just a few years. Marcy Haas ’18L went from being a part-time home baker during the pandemic, to sharing a commercial kitchen with other businesses, to becoming a full-time business owner with her own space. The U.S. Navy Veteran moved into the latter on April 1, 2024.
Located at 14th and N in downtown Lincoln, Sweet Things by Marcy is open 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Wednesday through Friday, with online order pickup available Monday through Saturday.
Desserts from Sweet Things by Marcy can also be enjoyed at Lincoln restaurants like Canyon Joe’s BBQ, Lila Mae’s Southern Kitchen and SoulFull Cocina.
Marcy’s love for baking is a lifelong passion that began at the tender age of 6 when she learned from her mother.
“I use most of the same recipes that my mother learned from my grandmother,” Haas said.
Her passion is evident in every southern staple she crafts, such as hummingbird cake, Kentucky butter cake and peach cobbler. Hass said that sweet potato pie is her favorite item to bake.
“It reminds me of my mom and all the warmth and love in her kitchen year-round,” she said.
Even her business’s namesake is infused with a personal touch, this time from someone outside her family.
“My friend and I came up with the name after singing Chaka Khan’s ‘Sweet Things,’” Haas said.
She dreams of Sweet Things becoming a household name in Lincoln and across Nebraska. And with determination and a heart like hers, it’s not just possible — it's inevitable.
